I made it far enough to the part where you need to go back and eventually get Piper as a companion. Now, however, when I talk to her, there is no option to continue her quest. WebOk then fast travel somewhere or go to your settlement and switch your companion by talking with like dogmeat or valentine or codsworth and then send your glitched companion to a settlement. Once done with that wait a day or two (in game) and go to the settlement you sent the glitched one to and then just switch out companions.
